OUR BRIEF

We were approached by the London and East team that was looking to increase the Willmott Dixon profile in the areas where it was working on projects.

The company has very strong community values and it wanted to use coverage in local and regional media to demonstrate its guiding principle that the work it does enhances lives and creates a sustainable legacy for its customers.

Since commissioning Strand, the impact has been phenomenal. We’ve had some really great local coverage on stories we just didn’t think we should be talking about.

INTRODUCING WILLMOTT DIXON

Willmott Dixon is an award-winning privately owned construction and fit-out company that was founded in 1852. It has offices in more than 20 towns and cities across England and Wales with its head office in Letchworth.

WHAT WE DID

With former journalists in our team, we have extensive knowledge and experience in pitching to local media, as well as a packed contacts book.

Working with Willmott Dixon’s internal communications team, we created a six-month plan, looking at events and projects that we knew would provide opportunities for press coverage.

Local media outlets have changed their approach in recent years and have become more selective in what is published which has led to us adjusting our tactics to ensure our releases hit the mark.

It is important we stay abreast of changes across newsrooms to allow us to continue to be effective for our clients.

Human interest stories still rate highly for local editors and a lot of our focus fell in this area, although not exclusively.

THE RESULTS

In the first six months of working with Willmott Dixon, we secured coverage across the target regions, including radio and television opportunities, delivering a 574 per cent return on investment.   The stories reached an audience of almost one and a half million readers. Richard Davidson, Willmott Dixon Director and Board Member, said: “Since commissioning Strand, the impact has been phenomenal. We’ve had some really great local coverage on stories we just didn’t think we should be talking about.”
